Greeting from the IIAS President Prof. Dr. Franz Strehl
The IIAS Third Specialised International Conference on "Public Administration and Private Enterprise – Cooperation, Competition and Regulation" in September 2005 will be the next most interesting and truly international event in the series of successful conferences of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences.
For 75 years IIAS has been playing a major role in the international scene of research and practical work in the large fields of Administrative Sciences. IIAS constitutes a forum in which academics and practitioners from the public and the private sector meet in order to learn from each other and to promote the state of the art of science and practice.
The general theme in Berlin is very crucial for the design of public sector – private sector relationships and is seen as a true challenge in many countries all over the world. In this respect it demonstrates continuity of the IIAS conference philosophy - to deal with internationally actual and pertinent themes – let me just name a few ones of recent years:

| | Yaounde 2003: "Shared Governance: Combatting Poverty and Exclusion"

The Berlin theme explicitly includes roles and responsibilities of the Private Enterprise and, therefore, will be of high interest also for participants from the private sector who have the opportunity to play an active role and to represent their interests in the design of the relationships of private enterprises with the public administration.
Berlin provides an excellent opportunity for debate, mutual learning and further development of this issue.

Franz Strehl
President of IIAS
Prof. Dr. Franz Strehl is the first Austrian President of IIAS. He holds a doctorate in economic and social sciences, but he has also a Master's of Business Administration. He is the first President to hold an MBA.
